History and Traditional Uses
Dr Livingstone, I presume?

-
The Swedish botanist, Thunberg, was the first person to document Honeybush tea, which he had the pleasure of sampling during a trip to SA in 1772, and “discovered” it being drunk as a cough tonic by the indigenous Khoisan (please note, it does NOT taste like modern “cough medicine”!!). There is also record of the tea being used for medicinal purposes by the Cape colonists as far back as 1830.
-
Fast forward 250+ years, we now know that it contains pinitol, an antioxidant that assist the body in getting rid of phlem, and therefore a natural cough remedy. More on pinitol below...
Organic Honeybush Espresso
(Limited Edition)

Pheww, sigh a sigh of relief NZ– I have a rooibos drink for you that is far easier to pronounce:
“H-o-n-e-y-b-u-s-h”, no more, no less, no surprises. Just kidding, massive surprises...Yes, it is brewed the same way as Rooibos (and coffee) espresso, with the same warm, reddish brown colour and golden crema. BUT, then, whabam!, it intrigues you with its unique flavour profile:
-
Refreshingly mild, smooth and slightly sweeter taste.
-
Enriched with flavours reminiscent of honey or caramel.
-
Mellow and delicate, compared to the more robust, woody taste of Original Rooi.
-
Soothing, comforting, rejuvenating, bliss.

Health Benefits
The Same Difference...

-
Honeybush delivers the same health benefits as Rooibos, such as being naturally caffeine and sugar free, high in antioxidants, and having positive effects on blood pressure and blood sugar.
-
It contains pinitol, providing the additional perk of being particularly beneficial for coughing and phlem. Pinitol is a cyclitol that also has antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties! A potent little sucker.
-
The polyphenals in Rooibos and Honeybush have positive effects on blood sugar regulation, which is an extra bonus as we are realising more and more the importance and benefits of preventing blood sugar spikes to assist in mental and physical well-being.
